Is that reserved for how Jewish history talks about being chosen? I mean it as a pointer to any insular subculture that takes itself too seriously

It’s not reserved, but I have seen antisemites fixate on and distort that particular aspect of Jewish tradition, often with sneering references to “the Chosen People”. So in seeing this without other context, it did elicit a raised eyebrow.

I wasn’t even thinking of the Jewish usage tbf. More like Neo the Chosen One trope from movies etc, except group edition.
