being unafraid to expose your ignorance is a sign of intellectual strength 👊

There’s people who seem to feel humiliated by having to reveal that they learned something they. Ie they feel humiliated to say “I learned this” not just “I don’t know” When they do learn something they go to great lengths to pretend they never didn’t know it 🤔

Strength/fear is kinda the wrong frame to look at this imo. Most people who do it are simply not very self-important. They’re indifferent about how they might appear because curiosity is a far bigger feeling than fear/shame

really? That’s so counter to my experience with this attitude. Every time I’ve encountered this type of posturing it’s from someone who is Very Smart and Very Important; too afraid to say “I don’t know”

Smart and important not the same as self important! Like Obama was able to laugh at himself and not take himself too seriously. So was GWB. Both were able to learn and evolve in their jobs in a way Trump hasn’t been able to.

this topic has a lot of v enjoyable depth; I’m not sure I’m communicating well myself! I was commenting moreso on those who don’t learn—the self important ones, if you will?

The distinction you draw between Smart/Important vs Self Important is interesting to me and perhaps exposes my own flawed thinking. I assume if one is important in this world, they also must have the ego or self importance to accompany it. Not a safe assumption per se

What you say makes sense, and honestly makes me wonder if there’s any other personality traits I conflate like this. This discussion has resulted in some nice introspection for me. Appreciated. ♥️ ty and have a wonderful evening vgr!
