multiplayer network experiences are almost all dead or rotting on the vine for casual players. people want virtual places to chill out, work on, see some progress & gains. but the gaming market keeps catering to competitive and/or splashy big budget experiences.

few games give us an ambient ability to connect with each other in the virtual. animal crossing serves as a background, stage, where upon we can meet, check out some places, & be social. most games are too full of themselves & too busy to permit socializing.

Switch (already massively popular console) + Much anticipated title (much celebrated series) + experience matched to the times (Animal Crossing was originally made to emulate the feeling of a welcoming community. Perfect for a pandemic).

"Low Challenge, High Skill Tasks" by
@davatron5000 > I think this is part of the reason [it's] so popular right now. Video games offer an escape by giving a series of low-challenge tasks that in turn fosters relaxation and control in a sea of worry. https://daverupert.com/2020/04/low-challenge-high-skill-tasks-in-terrible-times/ …pic.twitter.com/u4pzCHTo9h
