Kinda interesting that the century of American globalization and the century of Chinese globalization both have a pandemic about 25 years in. I’d date the former to the 1893 Chicago world fair, and the latter to the death of Deng Xiaoping, 1997.

Yes, one suggests, in contrast to others that suggest otherwise. The question should of course be one of evidence, but much like a great deal of other contemporary research in fields where good data is hard to come by, tends to follow narrative appeal.

Others suggest according to their narrative appeal tastes. It’s inescapable, absent definitive information. The “everything originates in China” narrative is equally attractive to some.
