I now have a very clear definition of religious fundamentalism: congregating in a pandemic. Multiple examples, multiple religions, both mainstream and cultish. Revealed belief in literalist religious doctrines.
You don’t even have to buy into prosocial avoid-infecting-others/flatten-the-curve beliefs. Simple fear of getting infected yourself should be enough to avoid this.
I think there are tons of people who would take the risk rather than give up things that are big parts of their lives (even just going to the beach). More so if you live somewhere where dying of disease is a regular thing and/or you think containment is impossible.
God's chosen ones will not be thinned/culled from the herd! Any who are, they were not true believers, because God knows.
If the religious stupid would stay out of the hospitals, I wouldn't mind so much.
