there are certainly systemic lessons to be drawn from maskgate, and a debate to be had, but that can wait for right now, making/wearing masks (including learning how to do so correctly to avoid secondary risks) is more important than theologizing Maskism and judging antimaskists

What frosts me is the argument "masks may do more harm than good" as justification for a blanket recommendation against. It seems to be based on the idea that mask wearers may engage in more risky behavior. The word "may" is often dropped from both this and the above.

It's a valid concern, but does not justify advising people who WOULD still behave responsibly, learn to use them correctly, etc. to not use them. And advising just *when* their use is appropriate.
