(but seriously): food&shelter mode for society, for 6 months. A way to ensure the continuity of both for everyone. Postponing rent, small UBI and opt-out food baskets. All temporary.

That being said, low-resolution vision of a sad, unmanageable communist existence being the best i can muster i am not the leader we need to look up to.

Living in Singapore, masks are worn by the sick, not by everyone else. Lots of tracing, lots of preventative measures, lots of testing, people generally following advice, excellent gov response to date

The absence of a structured safety net at all levels that allows for a pause and resume without shutting it down.

And we need that net to catch us again, and again, because these will be recurring pauses—-and even if they’re not, they should be.

At the risk of sounding glib: masks? Even if they don't push R0 below 1, any significant reduction would save bajillions of dollars

Two ideas: 1) a pause button -- employers don't have to pay salaries, renters don't have to pay rent, borrowers don't have to make payments -- for two months The big problem I see with this is that everyone still needs to buy food. So where does that money come from, etc? ...
-
2) cheap loans from gov -- max 5k per individual, max 5k per full-time equivalent employee for firms
