We have 1 lightly used N95 (worn a few times for forest fires) and 3 disposable L3 surgicals (which we’re planning to handle carefully and reuse). Might try to make cloth masks. When this blows over I might wear a tacticool washable mask regularly during flu season/travel.

Standard masks are useless against the main mode of transmission, inhalation of repsiratory droplets. They will help if you are sick by containing coughs and sneezes. They do have some use in transmission from touching surfaces then your face.

Do you have anything that supports that "Masks don't help" is a noble lie?

In Japan like 80% of people were wearing them. I’d be amazed if that didn’t help hack the r0 down.

Wearing a mask will keep your nose and throat more moist, which (rumor?) compared to drier nose/throat is more effective against the virus. Also decreases stigma/shows others it’s OK to wear one. Many great reasons vs “not literally effective at specific goal”
