I think densification as a general philosophy may be toast. It will be like Fukushima for nuclear.https://www.nytimes.com/2020/03/17/world/europe/coronavirus-city-life.html …

There is also vat grown meat coming down the pipe and traditional veganism (just fruits and veggies). I think it's much more likely than cities going away. That take goes against the metabolic theory of ecology, summarized by Geoffrey West here:https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_JUAx445ReU …

West’s theories on cities have been seriously and credibly challenged unfortunately. I like them but they do seem shaky. https://arxiv.org/pdf/1102.4101.pdf …

Almost all deadly communicable diseases are zoonotic. Viruses and other pathogens are obviously never naturally selected to kill their hosts. Many pathogens still kill humans anyway because they evolved in animal bodies and then only later started infecting humans.

So if we don’t want a new plague, restricting human contact with live domestic animals makes a lot of sense. Notice that the New World had pretty much no plagues at all before the Europeans arrived, and that was *not* because they didn’t have any cities.https://youtu.be/JEYh5WACqEk
