Been watching Timeless, a 1-season backwards-only time travel show. Good for what it is, but damn they’re always going back and saving fragile bits of preferred history. Like going back and paying historicist technical debt. New Doctor Who also does that too much. Hate it.

Ex-post Leibnizean optimism. “All was for the best in that best of all possible worlds” Curiously they never try to “improve” history. Nobody actually tries to kill hitler. Interestingly conservative approach. The devil-we-know possible world. Perturbations assumed bad.

We are in a backwards-only time travel machine. Living through a linear combination of 10 shitty past eras. Except for the internet, which is the saving grace of this timeline. If we had to go back and defend the timeline, my prime directive would be: make sure internet happens.

Part of why Asimov’s The End of Eternity is so good.

I agree. I pretty much hate them. But what particular (movie?) triggered this?
