The financial market is like a religion you're forced to join. I really don't want to devote any brain cycles to thinking about The Market and What It is Thinking and How to Win Its Favor for My Portfolio, but like everybody else I have to. Passive investing is agnosticism.

I think we’ve hit peak passive investing. It still will be a good, low cost strategy for many, but this whole crisis is demonstrating that investing still requires discernment and assessing risk tolerance. Throwing money blindly at stonks always ends in tears...

Agreed. Not sure where the peak is, though. Maybe ~20% of mkt could still be passive? But it couldn’t keep growing every year, either..

Wrong. Passive investing is blind faith.

Strongly disagree on forced part. More like culturally prevalent and marketed extremely. They will always advertise alcohol and it is a social thing to do. Still it is an optional thing. Some people drink some don’t.

passive is a faith like any other, but an immensely brain cycles-saving one!https://twitter.com/Convexity16/status/1233226222466785280 …

As someone who just put 95% of my savings into an index fund this week (talk about timing the market!), faith is exactly what is needed to get through volatility and randomness. “Efficient market” as a rough approximation for “God” is a surprisingly fruitful analogy. https://twitter.com/ESYudkowsky/status/1233068785214484481 …
