Conversation

I've been biting my tongue for about two weeks now: "Remote conference" completely misunderstands the purpose of conferences and is DOA. The entire point of a conference is that it's not remote.

The talks portion of a conference, while it may be informative or even entertaining, is there to make it a plausible business expense for everyone to fly out and stay in mid-level hotels. Conferences are about the "hallway track." I'm dubious that it can be replicated online.

Feature parity is totally the wrong thing to solve for. It’s like blogs trying to be magazines or books. Gotta go with the grain of the medium and retarget main goal creatively.

Nah. It’s a conference. Satisfies the intension (with an s) sense of the idea of people meeting, sharing ideas and connecting personally. Just as reading a book on the kindle is reading a book. In fact, I’d claim the turf and call meatspace conferences “parties with a few talks”
