3D printing already has a significant impact in speeding up design iterations, handling one-off needs like prosthetic fittings, etc. The impact on the supply chain is to reduce need for inventory off slow-moving parts, substituting commodities like filament.

But it will never replace injection molding, for example. 3D-print the molds! Reproduce the part in stainless steel on a CNC milling machine. Result: a simpler supply chain, fat where fat pays off in volume.
