Interesting! A bit hard to follow, and probably impossible for anyone who hasn't thought about these issues. The core point is that things are complex and not amenable to ideology. I suspect energy concerns together with technical advances will drive some supply chain locality

Yes, but people have NO meaningful calibration on how far away most elements of their libertarian utopia are. 3d printing for example, is fairly narrow impact in the near term. Not gonna get to Neal Stephenson matter compiler type shit in our lifetimes.
