It’s easy to proclaim that open networks are better than closed hierarchical orgs, but it’s much harder to instigate true open networks. Most networks are actually instigated by hierarchical orgs in their ecosystems anyway, and are compromised in proportion to captivity level.

Preferential attachment ones sometimes induce hierarchies, but I think the meaningful distinction is the existence of a meaningful power gradient which is extrinsic to graph properties

how much of this is due to the underlying legal structure the networks operate within? If the law makes it difficult to establish such networks then the field is tilted in a particular way
