Not made any truly expensive $ mistakes thankfully, but time mistakes, yeah. I regret almost all the time I’ve spent on commissioned business writing, for business/marketing type gigs. Wasn’t fun, probably made my real writing worse.

All mistakes of omission Not learning breathwork sooner Not making YouTube videos sooner Wasting too much time/energy on deadbeat friends Etc But can’t overcorrect because there is value in my slow deliberative process, patience, etc
-
If I started making YouTube vids when I started my account in 2005 I think I would be rich today. Could even let you have a residency in my mansion. Damn text bias

Oh I have a way better one I just remembered... Back in 2013 I still had a 401k left over from my time at Amazon that was 100% Amazon stock. I happened to remember about it one day and put it in a market index fund to "diversify risk." That probably cost me a few hundred grand
-
Lol, my sympathies. In 2014 I went the other way and bought some amzn instead of going all index for that year’s savings. I think it’s gone up 6x since then.

I did a high profile gig early in my career and got so psyched about it that I wrote a detailed blog write-up of the whole thing including technical details. I know of at least 3 next gigs I lost because of that
-
As in people stole your playbook or you’d have gotten the gigs?

The years I spent trying to do a startup. Cost a lot in terms of missed salary. But even more so the way that process forced me to shrink the way I imagined technology and its possibilities in order to fit into the VC/startup mindset. Wrote about it then: http://urbanhonking.com/ideasfordozens/2008/12/01/on_failure/ …

3/ So I challenge the notion of the process forcing you into that position. Perhaps if you continued, you may have found success because all it takes is 1.
