Fwiw, and may be no help but my current plan is to alternate between binge-reading Pratchett and binge-reading Banks forever, in between everything else.

The Gentlemen Bastard series by Scott Lynch was clever, light and fun. Also love Joe Abercrombie’s stuff for quality escapism, starting with the First Law trilogy.

This isn’t in-genre, but the Master and Commander series is 20 books of essentially Austen-on-sea. It’s funny and absorbing, makes you care about the characters, and is generally delightful. Perhaps too much talk of foremast futtock-shrouds for some, but it wears it lightly.

You do have to let yourself in for O'Brian's very, very thorough knowledge of 19th century life at sea. Slightly less technical (but still good fun and Napoleonic Wars-based) are Bernard Cornwall's "Sharpe" series.
