Yeah I doubt this would taste good to an adult palate. Sour plus milk fat-sweet. But as a kid I’d eat idli/dosa with sugar because chutneys were too spicy for me. Adais work well with jaggery or jam though.

hey, same! I wonder if there are Sciencey reasons for this, like kids having higher metabolisms = love sugar more (or maybe they just don't have to be responsible for the crashes). also why do adults like spicy or bitter things more...

I think it’s pretty common and more about an alternative to spicy than a preference for sweet... hot spices are basically a mild stressor since they can actually hurt badly at high concentrations. To a kid, chutney powder is probably like pepper spray.
