People in tv shows waste a lot of food. Somebody is always making breakfast that somebody else says “not hungry” to. Then they toss the food. On Star Trek, nobody ever finishes a meal. They sit down, eat a bite, then there’s an emergency, and they run.

They still have replicator credits/rations. Presumably because it still takes energy.
