This is my conversational account. For my work follow @ribbonfarm, @breaking_smart, @artofgig. Tweets are 90% vacuous views, apathetically held. Mediocritopian.

What’s the most intricate mechanism whose functioning you understand well enough to explain? Any kind... machine, math, finance, biology, stars, dishwashers, epidemiology, law... and how many “moving parts” in the explanation?

“Demystify” level of explanation, not control, repair, or construction level.

It depends heavily on how many times I'm allowed to use the phrase "then some crap happens that I don't know much about, and then"

Email. All the way from tapping a button down to transistors, including the magic that makes glass able to detect your finger.

Early Hebrew history, or fully loaded Kubernetes, right now. I've probably discarded at least one other of greater complexity; odds are it was an RPG or CCG system.

Moving parts are hard to enumerate in all cases, because it depends how deep the explanation I'm giving. Could be all the way down to silicon for kube, but that's rarely called for.

It's a toss-up between pricing of options/derivatives and other structured financial products, and blockchain technologies.

I can explain live mixing & song blending for wannabe DJs while doing it live in front an audience--but I'm not sure it's a skill, since you have to do that as a working DJ, sans explanation. BPM, key matching, turntable lag vs digital pitch locking, vibe--2^x moving parts? ;-)
