"domestic cozy adds an element of real comfort to situations where premium mediocre adds an element of theatrical faux-luxury. If premium mediocre is extended legroom on a plane, domestic cozy is bringing your own pillow."

There is truth in both writer's assessments: Pattern is seeking a sense of insulated, inwards domesticity as a solution for 'post-burnout millennials.' But, I also think while domestic cozy is a gen-z led response, it's values go across age groups. I think it's a cultural shift.

I think it's also why open spaces has been so well received in short order from people in both their early-mid 20s through late 30s. I think people are hungry for alternatives to stress, public shouting, and just want to spend more time safe at home, feeling safe, and cozy.

ha ya I helped found gin lane and then pattern. I've been reading for years, but been so heads down the past few months I hadn't read domestic cozy 5-10 till last week. was really meta and inspiring. Couldn't agree with it more.

fwiw, I think aesthetically / vibe pattern is like 50/50 millennial premium mediocre (which was like 100% gin lane) & domestic cozy. Pattern is trying to naturally evolve away from a lot of P.M. - the values, the playbook, the goal. To be more creative, internal, cozy, loose.
