The Bill Murray quote about “try to be rich first and see if that doesn’t cover most of it” is right on. If I knew how to be rich, I’d probably never have tried anything involving a public spotlight. I suspect actually *wanting* to be famous is pretty rare. Like 10%.

They’re not even that correlated unless you specifically do get-famous things that also are good get-rich gambles. So far I’ve figured out zero formulas to hit on both. I have like 1 get-mildly-famous formula with no riches attached.

Tim is the prototypical example of “next level” fame for people at my level (it’s a logarithmic scale, so if Beyoncé is 9, and Tim is 5, I’m a 4). I’ve frankly always used him as a cautionary tale rather than an aspirational one, even without knowing these details.

I think I’ve even avoided Level 4 downsides. My downsides are level 2 or 3. I think because my writing is too opaque to be good fodder for psychotic projection etc. I’ve only bad one threatening psycho in 13 years, and maybe 3-4 non-dangerous people needing mental health help.
