If you don’t get more specialized as you age, you have to become more extroverted. Sociability is kinda the default specialization. I’ll never be a party animal or conference circuit business butterfly but I’m amazed at how much “sociability” is learnable.

Like with almost everything else, 90% of sociability boils down to pacing yourself, staying hydrated, and listening at least as much as you talk. Preferably way more.

Admit it: for an introvert, having to get more extroverted with age is a sort of failure at life.

I'd disagree with that. Ultra specialisation also paints you into a corner, making you more vulnerable. Better to acquire skills in adjacent domains. At least in software, that puts you in a better position.

Not sure I see quite where you’re pointing. What’s behind the need to specialize or become more extroverted?
