There is something like a common knowledge game but with silences. Like, not all silences mean the same thing. When a bunch of people are silent about X for the same reason, and everybody kinda knows everybody is silent for the same reason, it’s a common silence or something.

uh, the conversation has become so centralized, that to participate in it we need to understand what type of language is hurtful to various subgroups, and hence appropriately silenced (unless there is some very strong justification in unusual circumstances)...

The biggest reason people are silent is usually not wanting to contradict a powerful local authority figure with practical power over you specifically. Like a boss or parent. Power Correctness. The other PC.
