ok so you have a good thing can you come up with a *generalizable* transform to make it premium mediocre thing? kinda like the laws of cute, only for premium mediocre?

Laws of cute? The general thing is to lower the standards of the good thing and add superficial features. Like for chocolate, lower cacao quality, nicer packaging.

thanks! I get it now. and now you know where pdx hipster ocd ingredientism comes from... it's a defense against premium mediocritization (which we know well, but by other names)

I did a definitive, blind, "peer reviewed" (we had witnesses) taste test between Stoli's and Absolut in the 80s. The tasters could reliably distinguish the vodkas, and one of the tasters (me) learned that "their" vodka wasn't their fav. Christmas '88 I think. God, I miss mom.
