I will admit I hate doing handyman shit now. Used to be proud to be able to do basic stuff as a teenager but jeez it’s high effort, low (psychological) reward. I’d get bored to tears if I had to do full time handyman work like minor maintenance and repairs in a building all day.

Schlepped the shit out of some relative's belongings today, then learned about some icky microorganisms unfortunately relevant to the schlepping, then back to building software based on all kinds of disciplines. Really wouldn't mind one of those Boston Dynamics dogs about now.

I dislike these kinds of works for a somewhat different but related reason. With every work there is a fertility factor of the idea space I can explore. Some works, like the blue collar examples you mention, have low fertility factor.

For example, I like cooking even if it’s labor intensive because it has a very high fertility factor (I never follow recipes). I don’t like cleaning because there is very low fertility factor associated with it.
