2020 is way bleaker than 2016. I’m now just watching with morbid fascination and wondering if there’s a bottom to this thing.

While I agree with your general view here, the interest rate thing seems disconnected in general to me. IMO interest rates are mostly being set by central banks that globally have few options.

In terms of monetary policy, the US has the most fuel in the tank out of the developed nations, and it has historically little for this stage in the cycle. Paired with pensions being incredibly underfunded, it doesn't matter who thinks what or who's elected, we're easing.
