Commonly used Hindi / Urdu word in Delhi बंदा bandā (female counterpart बंदी) to refer to a person (man/woman) is from Persian word بنده bandā (=servant, slave) from Middle Persian bandag (servant) which is related to Old Persian brātā (= brother), related to Sanskrit भ्राता.
