hi fwendz it’s your neurotic pal back in your timeline to say: If you or a family member have deep/loud snoring and wake up complaining of being tired, man, please take them to the doctor and request a sleep study. doing this prob just saved my dad’s life

docs reckon > 22 million Americans have moderate to severe obstructive sleep apnea with > 80% undiagnosed. had a family member ever die in their sleep? could have been sleep apnea. strokes? could have been caused by sleep apneas. this shit is lethal

sleep study showed my dad has very severe sleep apnea. hundreds of episodes per hour of sleep, including 1-2min periods where he didn’t breathe at all (!) he could have died in his sleep anytime. this has caused several small strokes over the years, tiredness and depression

In the 4 years since dad had his main stroke/coma, not one doc mentioned apneas. It took a passing comment, brain scans, noticing more strokes over time, several nights with a baby monitor and a lot of stress. read up on sleep apnea. if you’re at all unsure, plz ask for a test ❤️

I‘s highly under-diagnosed but improving. I‘ve been using a cpap for mild apnea for a few years. Daytime energy significantly improved. One of the more no-brainer interventions. I think it’s under diagnosed in part because lightweight, quiet cpap machines are relatively recent.
