Hmmm I’m gonna need to revise the terminology here. Not sure “we’ll build a great enduring company by being full of sociopaths and losers instead of adding lots of clueless” will be quite the right inspirational tone for the team

Certainly brutal terminology I always struggle with this, because when things are life or death, that’s when language gets brutal. Polite society doesn’t need words that go to 11, but sailors and pirates do, since the stakes are higher.

Matt Levine's analysis of the language and communication norms in Boeing emails around a literal life/death decision process is relevant here. If I had time I'd analyze this in GP terms. As Levine notes, it is astounding they put this stuff in writing.https://www.bloomberg.com/opinion/articles/2020-01-10/keep-the-clowns-out-of-email …

My quick take is that Boeing appears to have been full of losers, with the sociopaths being so checked out and interested in financial engineering to the exclusion of their own risks that they forgot to impose email omerta on the losers.
