I still don’t really believe in dark matter. Very sketchy stuff. And unsatisfying.https://twitter.com/Rainmaker1973/status/1215526309167796224 …

I meant it in the sense that "finding a lump of dark matter" means "so, this is the value of dark_matter_var we need to set for this region of space to make the model fit," as far as I can see
Yeah, but at least it’s a systematic field of varying fudge instead of a single macro knob like an interest rate. Dark matter is a Keynesian fudge, dark energy is a monetarist fudge.
DE+CC is, from what I understand, saying that we have 2 unknown values, the first being missing energy in cosmology, the second being quantum zero-point energy in quantum theory. If these are equal, the problems go away. And that gives a testable prediction: uniform density.
the easy path is - galaxy rotation curves (radio astronomy Doppler shift of H-line) - compare with visible matter inside the radius at each radius - the speed of rotation is too big to be sustained by the visible matter. So—
- either there is more mass there than is visible OR - Newton (not Einstein) is wrong at these distances The second is tough to fit into the “structure” of gravitational theory.
