Hard to tell, but quite possibly I’ve had a flu rather than a cold these last couple of weeks. Seems like this year’s vaccine had some updates, effectiveness is uncertain, and some new strain has been going around, peaking in December.https://arstechnica.com/science/2019/12/this-years-flu-season-is-off-to-an-early-unusual-start-cdc-says/ …

The flu shot is a false sense of security. It’s not a regular magic-bullet style vaccine targeting a particular virus or bacterium. More like a shotgun with 4 (this year) common strains of a large family and a hope that one of the 4 will “rhyme” with whatever you get exposed to

there's hardly any point in testing until they get something better than Tamiflu. Tamiflu is often expensive, hardly reduces duration, has side effects https://www.tribecapediatrics.com/dr-jason-perlman-on-flu-testing-and-treatment/ …

(that's our pediatric practice - they recommend flu shot for every kid 6 months & up which we have faithfully gotten, and first year of flu shot they give you first plus a booster for some reason. )

Such tests are feasible, cheap to manufacture, but expensive to get cleared to market if not already OTC.

There are some biohacking type folks locally who could satisfy your curiosity about this, in under an hour, using just a finger-stick of blood.

If you can get out of bed, you don't have flu.
