    Things I was doing in 2009 that I no longer do — ftp — telnet (now: ssh) — feature phone (briefly had the blackberry storm but hated it and went back to feature phone... didn’t get iPhone till 2011) — read a lot of paper books (got my first kindle in 2010 I think) — LaTeX

        Things I was doing in 1999 I no longer do — book air tickets with agents — landline (first cellphone in 2000 I think) — desktops (first laptop in 2000, laser desktop 2007) — AAA triptiks/maps — CDs — transparencies for talks! (had backups for ppt-fail as late as 2004)

        Things I was doing in 1979 I no longer do — coloring books — play with toys — not watch TV (got tv in 1985 when I was 11) — listen to an old-fashioned microwave sized radio — go to school on a cycle-rickshaw — routinely watch steam engines actually operating

        This is possibly a false memory but I think I’ve ridden on a regular-service steam locomotive line before they were phased out (I do know I saw a lot, they were used for shunting work till the late 80s at least) ... not counting tourist steam trains I’ve ridden since

        I use a feature phone, recently built a desktop and still often have to deal with FTP because so many hosting companies use Cpanel which offers FTP as the primary means of accessing the file system.
