Aquarium owners buy CO₂ injection systems to enhance aqueous plant growth. Now I’m curious how oceanic diatom populations are responding to rising atmospheric CO₂? Diatoms = microscopic algae that exist in enormous quantities and produce 20% of our O₂

There’s a half mile deep layer of dead diatoms built up on the ocean floor. Luckily it isn’t scummy, it is more gritty/sandy. Dead diatoms are sold as ‘diatomaceous earth’ and some people put it in their gardens. Chem engineers use it as filter aid to enhance filtration rates.
