Next year I need to line up alt tv marathon to pre-empt this hallmark Christmas movie marathon I’m being subjected to this year, third in a row. Last two years I tolerated it, but this year I feel some cognitive bones cracking. THEY’RE ALL EXACTLY THE SAME AND AWFUL.

What my wife actually likes is the fantasy of living in a small town where everyone knows everyone. All these movies are about a big city career woman moving to a small town after a setback and learning the true meaning of community or something. That or princess stuff.

The town I grew up in was about 3500 people and social people knew a lot of others. At least within one or two jumps of everyone. My dad was a school teacher and former students were constantly stopping at the grocery store or wherever

In my experience the best way of living in these sorts of places is to associate yourself with someone everyone knows. Eg I did a 5mo newspaper internship in a 6k person Sacramento Valley town where everyone knew my boss.

I dated a girl in highschool whose father operated a white water rafting business in a Maine village with a sub 100 population. Corellation != causation but he was and is happier than I am
