Hypothesis: The novel as a literary form kinda ended with the end of history. It’s been reruns and reboots and refractors and recasts since 1992. Movies evolved via comix into extended universes though.

I understand the notion well. Read fukuyama’s newer book, Identity: the demand for dignity and you’ll see how and why he is reconsidering his thoughts on the state of “end of history” wrt liberal democracy

I still don't see Identity as a 'walking back' of the idea though! His central argument in Identity was that liberal democracy needs to include a space for religious and ethnic struggle lest it lash into 'megalothymia'. I consumed a sped up audiobook version, so might be wrong.
