A problem in social media is that there are no norms around gracefully retiring without actually retreating entirely and going dark. Retirement in meatspace isn’t disappearance from public life or turning into an NPC, it is changing style of play. Need that online.
Tbh the first analogy that occurred to me was Michael Corleone trying to exit crime in NY and take the family business in legit directions in Vegas. There’s a part of being Very Online (and dependent on it practically for your grift) that’s like being a part of organized crime.

I would note some celebrities (Clooney, Sam Neill) who have sort of leveled up to supporter/investor class - less need for personal attention, more mentorship and using their name recognition to empower others Maybe this is a useful model?
