Watching a Hindi tv show for the first time in decades, The Family Man on Netflix. Counterterrorism stuff, kinda like Homeland. Very patchy, but nice to see pretty modern TV with global sensibilities in Hindi.
I think the dialogue writers of these shows are pretty lousy... they seem to think throwing in a lot of gaalis makes it authentic, but then mess up fairly simple shit like throwing in doordarshan-Hindi words into what should be Urdu etc.

The problem the source material is actually in English and they’re doing some kind of reverse translation back into Hindi. They got Anurag Kashyap to direct so the swearing feels partially inspired by gangs of Wasseypur which he wrote and directed

Even gangs had the issue that the writing was uneven and the second movie especially tapered off like the writers shouldn’t hold their attention to finish it. Still, the gaali aesthetic was better suited for the UP setting.
