Wonder if Brits can still enjoy rewatching the old 80s Yes, Minister and Yes, Prime Minister, or even The Thick of It. Is it harder to watch now, or easier as sort of nostalgic escapism?

‘Yes, Minister’ is quasi-libertarian Tory propaganda in disguise. Some of the only conservative comedy that has ever made me laugh. https://web.archive.org/web/20150501052851/http://reviewsindepth.com/2010/03/yes-prime-minister-the-most-cunning-political-propaganda-ever-conceived/ …

Meh. This is a silly reading of the show. Good writing is good precisely because it tends to break out of any ideological objectives the author has. If it doesn’t it is a literary failure like Ayn Rand. YPM is satire first, ideology second, and propaganda only to the paranoid.

Yes Minister is the original deep state conspiracy 😜

The Thick of It doesn’t feel so old yet. It was always kind of hard to watch and still is: it’s dreadful, but it’s dreadful in a very funny way.

I lived in London 96-06 and was planning to binge re-watching some of that for Xmas but fuck if I’m even gonna do “The New Stateman” now. I’m never very optimistic about human nature but was expecting a hung parliament...Who knows maybe we’ll get a bunch of good shows out of this

I think they should reboot the thick of it. Veep worked so well last couple years. @Aiannucci we need more!

I never watched The Thick of It at the time. Tried starting it a few months ago and it made me angry and nauseous so I stopped 😊 Yes, Minister would probably still be ok

It's a bit like how House of Cards went from "Oh my god, how shocking, what if it's really like that?" to "Ahhh, a Dem president getting stuff done, that's nice."
