A couple of years ago I learned about offtake agreements from a chemical industry gig and now I think of my book project as trying to set up a pilot plant "funded" by offtake agreements with my blog/newsletter/podcast. Gotta keep all the plates spinning.

Wonder if some version of it can work in software. got off the ground via funding from people who badly wanted the tool, so that's a kind of offtake agreement. Guaranteed user base.

In another way, I'm a counterparty to an offtake agreement with ... as a customer for one of his more complex mazes to use in my project (as well as partnering with him on the project, a case of double dipping)

It is amazing how much even the smallest creative projects, be it a book or an indie game, require the same kinds of delicate enablement engineering. Not just time/money, not around the substance of what is being done.

What's the boundary between a bi-directional customer relationship and a simple collaborative relationship?

collaboration is when you both have a stake in the same thing, bidirectional customer relationship is when I sell you X and you sell me Y, and maybe we reconcile books with low cash deltas, kinda like barter
