If you work for a company that’s harvesting a market in terminal decline rather than pioneering, growing, or sustaining one, by default you’ll be a dead player. To come alive again, you have to get in on a disruption story (externally or internally) or turn into a proper vulture.

A “vulture” in this situation is an aggressive PE type operator that aims to make the harvesting maximally efficient. Running faster than natural decline curve to get traction and steering authority over process. Like how you have to accelerate into a turn for control sometimes.

This is a deep psychological risk a lot of long-term employees don’t notice till it’s too late. Work is the biggest part of identity for people who must work for a living. Not family or hobbies. If the employer is dying, you’re dying with it unless you do something about it.
