This is such a grift. You can get away with anything by calling it a provocation or intervention. For 120k you don’t even get lifetime banana replacement: “The work comes with a certificate of authenticity, and owners of the work replace the banana as they see fit.”

Hmm. Offering lifetime banana replacement would actually make it an interesting bit of art. Logistics as performance art.

It would be a bit like the 10,000 year clock. The actual bananas would be cheap. Say 2 per week for 100 years is only 10400 bananas, or at say 20c per banana in 2019 price, we’re talking ~$2080. The challenge would be getting someone to do the replacement chore for 100y
