There’s two kinds of writers. The first kind, if you get to know them, you stop reading them. The second kind, if you get to know them, you start reading them.
I’m mostly the first type, so for me, the cost of making friends with a reader is often losing that reader.

In a way this is why I have a viable consulting practice, even though I never try to write stuff explicitly to market the consulting (that basically never works for me)

Presumably you get the benefit of their thoughts directly on things you want their thoughts on, without having to wade through their genpop work
Type 2 are people you might read for pleasure and in-person contact reveals that they are likely pleasurable writers
