Doesn’t have to be a new trend. Could just be newly foregrounded event stream to you, like noticing red cars after buying a red car. But has to be tangible, not inferred pattern. “People saying thank you/sorry more in LA than in Seattle” counts. “LA people are nicer” doesn’t.

What was the last phenomenon, observable as a stream of discrete events, that “popped” from background to foreground for you, and what if anything triggered the pop? Example for me: fancy water bottles trend. Now I notice them everywhere. Noticed when I got one as schwag.

I call the mind-filters-adjustment thing the Van Effect, because there are SO MANY vans on the road when you're driving around in a rental van for the day. The Fight Club 'cigarette burns' thing is a really good example too. I noticed those forever after (until proj -> digital)
