A basic thing many fans of crowdfunding seem to be blind to is that crowdfunding = crowdpleasing.
I’ve never done crowdfunding because I’ve never yet had a crowdpleasing idea.
Low-unit-cost, high-volume consumer products like my ebooks and newsletter aren’t crowd funding

Why do you think that they're blind to it? I figure that it's pretty well understood, but that some people decide that if it is a cost, it's one worth paying

It’s not a “cost”, it’s an incompatibility. You don’t get to decide to treat it as a cost for arbitrary projects, only ones that are first compatible structurally with that model. There’s no meaningful way to spin most things in crowd-pleasing ways.
