Next Halley’s Comet visit will be 2061. If I’m alive I’ll be 87
Who else watched it in 1986?
I’m trying to make a list of historic events I’m very sure will happen in the future within my lifetime if I’m still alive, and this is literally the only thing I can think of.

I saw it... had made a small telescope at home, specifically to watch it :)

Nope! Almost from scratch... :) It was a refracting telescope. I had an old microscope... used its eye-piece, and a regular convex lens. Put that in a rolled up paper calendar with a smaller sliding pipe for focusing! It worked reasonably well :) ... No proper stand though.

I once tried but couldn’t find an objective lens of meaningfully long focal length. How did you find one?

I guess I got lucky....didn't 'find it'.. As I said, just used the objective (eye piece) from the microscope...and it seemed to work well, with the convex lens combination.
