There are lots of astronomical events, but nearer term, the 2020 election and the next bitcoin halfening. Longer term, the 2038 Unix timestamp rollover - and that's the only human-influenced one I'd be sure about that far out. (I'm guessing we won't move Halley's comet, but...?)

Well astronomical you have to pick somewhat charismatic ones that are close in and have some human history significance I guess we can bet on a few Unix computers being around in 2038 preserved by the zombie resistance force

I tried! Stood in my back yard with binoculars and a telescope night after night. Never managed to see it myself, but I wasn't the world's greatest 9-year-old astronomer, either.

It was not easy seeing, since it was kinda at an angle close to the sun or something iirc... I only saw it as a dim fuzzy ball. No glorious tail.

Who else watched it in 1986?
I’m trying to make a list of historic events I’m very sure will happen in the future within my lifetime if I’m still alive, and this is literally the only thing I can think of.
