Your tweet made me realize that the biggest difference between IRL situations and sim games is that sims give you guidance on how to accomplish or traverse the situation. IRL you generally gather resources then have to organize them yourself, i.e. when starting a business, etc.

Sim games also usually always have a way to win. Whatever real-world decision that is represented by deciding to play the game is always a good idea. In real life you can do everything right and still fail.
