I wish a lot of nonfiction books would start with a glossary. Like some pulp fiction (eg Perry Mason novels) begins with dramatis personae like in plays. Dramatis Ideatae? Dramatis Memetae? Someone latinize these.

This feels common to me in my nonfiction reading, at least in intent (if I'm understanding correctly) - what would you want that isn't in an author's introduction? (V agreed that nonfiction would benefit from being shaken up)
