Empirically people don’t really seem to grow much after 40. Maybe 1 in 10 will adopt a truly different mindset. Maybe 1 in 100 will develop a new life-shaping ability (not a hobby). Maybe 1 in 1000 will take on a fundamentally leveled-up Act 2 that will top Act 1.

this thread really closely parallels my "i'm turned 40" mental process. There's definitely a sense that what felt like a finish-line race in my 30s is transforming into a recognition that the style of my gait is the prize for having endured chaotic youth.

Yeah I felt palpable relief when that was done. A sense of “yay nobody expects a certain kind of shit from me anymore and I’ve aged out of 40-under-40 bullshit races” You gave to survive it and check that box off. It’s sort of a graduation event. But it’s not “life” anymore.
