Holy crap just realized the 10th anniversary of the Gervais Principle was last week (posted Oct 7, 2009)
For those who came in late, this post is the reason I have a social media career.
I should mark the occasion with a commemorative post. ribbonfarm.com/2009/10/07/the

Scene: my school in 1988, I’m 14
Teacher: you’re pretty smart and get good grades, you could do anything with your life, what do you want to do?

It would be really hilarious if I’d actually planned this. In 2007 when I started, social media careers were not something you could actually plan the way you can today. You could at best goof around and stumble into them.

I only read it this year. Started in the afternoon at work, completely rapt, finished it on the couch at home with the help of a bottle of wine to calm down. Great piece, gave me a fresh perspective on how companies operate. TY.

Reading it now. Curious about the story though, how did it lead to your social media career?
